Why is there no toyota diesel

TV news are showing stuff at a big car show. Nissan is showing a full size P/U to compete with F/C/D. It's not the 7/8 size that the Tundra is. They said it was going on sale later this year; didn't hear if there was anything said about the engine options. Any news out there?
My Toyota dealer said a a crew cab Tundra is on it's way, plus a larger powerplant, but i haven't seen any hard news on it either.

Why is there no toyota diesel

mark h:
my 7/8 comment was for the tundra. I saw it referred to that way in one of the car mags. I know it's an exaggeration but the tundra interior does feel smaller than C/F/D's. specs show it is shorter (218 vs chevy 228"Wink yeah right, narrower, and less tall.
tundra's capacity numbers are there with C/F/D, but I like to stay away from "undersized" machinery even though it carries impressive stats. i drive an Intrepid for work with 2.7L V-6 "rated" at 200hp. those 200 ponies must not have gotten their oats, cause it's a dog.
And I have 4 toyota's in the family now,so i'm not picking a anti-toyota argument.
I just prefer working with a bigger tool. That's why i mentioned hearing of larger versions in the future.

Why is there no toyota diesel

Chicago Tribune, 1/16/03
Detroit Auto Show Notebook
"Toyota will introduce the Tundra Double Cab at the Chicago Auto Show in Feb, a version of its full-size pickup with four conventional doors. The Tundra lineup consists of regular cab and Access Cab models, the latter an extended cab with rear-opening back doors.
"Though the Tundra competes with full-size pickups, it lacks the size and brawn of big trucks from F, GM, and D, as well as the 2004 Nissan Titan. When the Titan was unveiled in Detroit, Nissan referred to Tundra as "seven-eighths of a full-sized p/u", but Toyota says size doesn't matter that much.
"In that market of about 2 million [full size] trucks, there are a lot of different buyer motivations," said Jim Press, chief operating officer of Toyota Motor Sales. "Tundra is a good personal-size truck. We're not necessarily going after the segment that wants to pull tractors."
